Introduction to Online Community Manager Blog Post

Hello fellow Japanophiles on the blog, forums, and social media! My name is Matt Maeda and am the Smileside Japan Online Community Manager. I help keep the forums civil, the questions and answers clean, and help expand on questions to make for a good discussion instead of banther. With great amounts of time sunk into research and working with people in Japan it helps to be a communicator between those who are from Japan, living in Japan, and those visiting Japan to become much more aware about how people see things from different perspectives.

Being raising in a Japanese household that was a mixture of cultures from the Hawaii Local Culture has made things easy to spot that are from an area, not from an area nationally, and international. Having family that have been travel agents, avid travelers to Japan, and extended family who moved there due to their enjoyment of the rich culture and food there is many points of insight that help me make my opinions from both an outsiders point of view and an insider's point of view with the many people my family has hosted from Japan over the years for English studies.
